IS DIGITIAL SIGNAGE RIGHT FOR YOU?

Digital signage transforms static messages into dynamic, eye-catching visual experiences. It allows businesses to update content in real-time, significantly boosts customer engagement, and saves money on printing costs.

The importance of digital signage stems from several key benefits:

  • Real-Time Updates: Unlike traditional printed posters, digital displays allow you to change information instantly. This is ideal for time-sensitive promotions, menus, or emergency alerts.

  • Enhanced Engagement: Moving visuals, videos, and interactive screens naturally capture attention better than static signs, leading to higher message recall and increased sales.

  • Cost Efficiency: While the hardware setup requires an initial investment, digital signage eliminates the recurring costs of printing, shipping, and manually replacing physical posters.

  • Centralized Management: You can control a network of screens from a single dashboard. This ensures consistent branding and allows for tailored messaging based on the specific location or time of day.

  • Internal Communication: Beyond marketing, digital screens are increasingly used in workplaces to keep employees informed, boost productivity, and share vital company updates.

EXTERIOR VS. INTERIOR

Exterior and interior digital signage differ primarily in brightness, durability, and purpose. Exterior screens are ultra-bright, weather-proof, and designed to attract passersby. Interior screens are sleeker, optimized for up-close viewing in climate-controlled environments, and typically used for wayfinding and detailed messaging.

The key differences between the two include:

1. Brightness & Visibility

  • Exterior: Require a much higher brightness (typically 2,500 to 10,000 nits) to overpower direct sunlight and maintain visibility from a distance.

  • Interior: Engineered for indoor ambient lighting, usually between 300 to 700 nits. Using these outside makes them look washed out, while using an exterior screen indoors causes severe eye strain.

2. Durability & Weatherproofing

  • Exterior: Built to withstand harsh environmental conditions. They feature sealed enclosures (IP65 or higher for water/dust), tempered protective glass, and internal climate control systems to handle freezing winters and blazing summers.

  • Interior: Housed in lightweight plastic or thin metal cases without weather seals. Because they reside in climate-controlled environments, they are not built to survive extreme temperatures or moisture.

3. Purpose & Audience

  • Exterior: Primarily used for business advertising, digital billboards, gas station displays, and drive-through menus. Their goal is to capture attention and draw foot or car traffic.

  • Interior: Focused on enhancing customer experience within a space. Common use cases include lobby directories, retail promotions, digital menu boards, and office communication.

4. Cost & Maintenance

  • Exterior: The ruggedized hardware, specialized software diagnostics, and complex installation mean exterior displays are more expensive to purchase and maintain.

  • Interior: Generally, less expensive, and easier to install since they don't require heavy-duty weather enclosures.
